ANOTHER ELECTRICAL RATE INCREASE

COUNCIL VOTES!!! - AUG 14, 2012 AT GLENDALE CITY COUNCIL 613 E. BROADWAY, 91206, 2ND FLOOR. 6:00pm
BE HEARD!
Hi Neighbors,
The rate payers of the GWP starting last month saw another increase in their water rates and for the next several years a total rate increase of 13%. Our city council has said we needed the money for water infrastructure.
Now the GWP wants to increase our electrical rates as well.
Today, the GWP has given the electrical payers a "NO WIN CHOICE" of either a rate increase of 14.7% or 17.4% over the next several years for infrastructure repairs. This is just another gimmick to extract more money from the public.
Rather than paying for the infrastructure repairs of the GWP, through the revenues received, council has decided again, as some would say, to violate the City Charter and the Constitution and illegally transfer another $20 million from the GWP to the General Fund to pay for salaries and pensions of the city workers… council will then boast to the public we have balanced our budget, unlike other cities.
The need for additional revenue for infrastructure repairs was brought on by the mismanagement of our city council and GWP.
Government unions and their stranglehold on city government must come to an end. When council members can legally receive campaign money from the political actions committees of our unions and then sit down and negotiate with them, then there is a perception of a conflict of interest and the interest of the utility consumers and voters are compromised.
When our bills come due from the GWP, the rate payers will have another rate increase to pay for the salaries and pensions of our city workers. Because our council members have become the "gadflies" or spoke-persons for the city unions, our city council members are no longer the servants of the people.
As the former city employees LEAVE Glendale at age 50 or 55 with their $100,000 plus annual pensions for life...ordinary working people, people on fixed incomes, people who lost their savings in the stock and bond market, Social Security recipients and small business owners should be outraged knowing they made it possible for city workers to be able to leave our city in grand style.
If you are displeased with the management of our city, please email our city council members or phone council members personally, or appear in person on August 14 at 6pm at city council chambers to let them know your feelings.
