Former Police Chief Manny Cid |
|
FROM THE CITY WEBSITE: The City of Glendale announces the departure of Police Chief Manny Cid, who has accepted a new role as the next Police Chief for the Anaheim Police Department. Chief Cid has been an extraordinary leader whose contributions have transformed the Glendale Police Department and strengthened public safety citywide. During his tenure, he championed advancements in technology, training, and modern policing strategies, most notably through the development and implementation of the Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC). This cutting-edge initiative has reshaped Glendale’s approach to crime prevention, community safety, and emergency response. Beyond operational achievements, Chief Cid elevated the professionalism, integrity, and accountability of the department. “Chief Cid’s impact on Glendale is lasting and profound,” said Mayor Ara Najarian. “He strengthened our systems, deepened our partnerships, and reinforced a culture of excellence that will continue benefiting our community for years to come. We are proud of his accomplishments and grateful for the leadership he has brought to our city and wish him well in his future endeavors.” “This opportunity came to Chief Cid because of his remarkable leadership skills and what he accomplished at Glendale PD,” said City Manager Roubik Golanian. “This was an extremely hard decision for him to make, and ultimately it takes him closer to home, closer to family, and provides an opportunity for continued career growth. We support his decision wholeheartedly, even as we know we are losing an extraordinary asset." As Glendale prepares for this transition, Deputy Chief Robert William will serve as Interim Police Chief, alongside the very capable Glendale Police Department command staff. Deputy Chief William brings extensive experience, deep organizational knowledge, and a long-standing commitment to the Glendale community. The City of Glendale will begin the process to identify the next permanent Police Chief. Chief Cid’s departure also underscores the exceptional talent within the Glendale Police Department. He becomes the third Glendale Police Department alumnus currently serving as a Police Chief in California, joining former Glendale Captain Rafael Quintero, now Chief of Police in Burbank, and former Glendale Police Lieutenant Daniel Suttles, who also serves as a Police Chief in the City of Atascadero. Their collective success reflects the strength of Glendale’s training, leadership development, and professional culture. HISTORY OF GLENDALE POLICE CHIEFS |
Since 2009, this reporter has known the following Police Chiefs: |
POLICE CHIEF MANNY CID |
On a personal note, this reporter learned more about Chief Cid since we first reported on him back in February 2023. It was always reassuring when he was at a council meeting, community events, etc. At the Tuesday evening meeting on December 3, Chief Cid was not present. During the first period of Oral Communications, City Council Candidate Patrick Murphy announced that Chief Cid had resigned. This reporter and others were in shock. I went to the rear of the council chamber and spoke with our Fire Chief and others, and they, too, were all surprised by the announcement. The next day at the annual Christmas Tree ceremony in Perkins Plaza, city staff and council regulars were all talking about the resignation of Chief Cid. Chief Cid was a well-liked person in the community. This reporter approached our City Manager, Roubik Golanian, and asked about Chief Cid. Golanian said he was also surprised, but he knew when Chief Cid came into his office to hand in his resignation, he was hoping it would not be true. Chief Cid told RoubikGolanian that the larger city of Anaheim approached him and offered more compensation than Glendale, and that Anaheim was closer to his home in Newport Beach. I was almost in tears when I spoke to our City Manager about Chief Cid. Chief Cid and I had a good working relationship. Chief Cid was Cuban, and I would occasionally talk to him in Spanish. I asked Roubik Golanian when the city or someone would give Chief Cid a going-away party. Golanian said no party was planned as Chief Cid would be departing the city in a few days. However, a farewell party is planned at Le Brand Restaurant, 933 N. Brand Blvd., Glendale, across the street from Trader Joe's, on Monday, December 15, at 6:30 pm. Free and Open to the Public. |

ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2025 MOHILL RECEIVES PROCLAMATION |
|
VIDEO Mohill is surprised: Mohill Accepts Proclamation As Elder Wellness and Connection Month |
The City Council's December 2, 2025, Proclamation segment became one of the most memorable and genuinely joyful moments the chamber has seen in years. Like everyone in the gallery, I was caught completely off guard when I, often labeled the council’s nemesis, was selected to receive a proclamation for Elder Wellness and Connection Month. What made the moment memorable was the unexpected way the recipient was chosen. Proclamation recipients are chosen in advance, but not this time. Mayor Najarian announced the item and began scanning the room for a candidate. Someone in the gallery called out Mike Mohill. I was standing and chatting at the back of the chamber, unaware of the commotion, when the Mayor suddenly called my name and asked if I would accept the proclamation. When I asked what the proclamation was for, the room filled with laughter, turning it into a light and enjoyable moment for everyone. We appreciate the council’s gesture and the attention it brings to elder wellness and social connection. It was an honor to accept and to share the moment with all members of the council. We extend this proclamation to every elder in the City of Glendale and wish them a long, healthy life and a happy holiday season. PUBLIC COMMENT Tony Passarella The council nemesis, Mohill, gets a proclamation and his picture taken with the whole council. May the heavens fall. Anonymous |
MILKING GLENDALE DRY |

NORA THOMPSON, GLENDALE On December 8, 2025, YWCA CEO Debra Suh appeared yet again before the commission requesting additional funding for the organization's 100 year anniversary, along with more resources for visibility and advocacy. This time, she pushed for $10,000 upfront for her full bundle of requests. When the commission signaled for $5,000 allocation, she pushed for an additional $1,000 for a breakfast event and ultimately received $6,000. Debra Suh has skillfully applied calculated emotional pressure to quietly neutralize opposition and secure funding from numerous committees. VIDEO: Empower women and girls Why was opposition to this non-standard funding authority met with false labels? Despite its national scale, YWCA has secured hundreds of thousands of dollars in Glendale public funds over the past 2 years for building reconstruction and programmatic projects, rather than relying on private fundraising. YWCA efforts divert limited public resources away from much needed community development projects and nonprofits that do not have YWCA partisan lobbying influence. YWCA openly embraces its partisan identity, plays an active role in local elections, and functions as a training pipeline for partisan activists. We call on the council to retake oversight authority, assign guidelines to the women's commission, limit annual funding to YWCA, and prevent public funds from indirectly supporting partisan election activity through organizations like YWCA. |

BETH BROOKS, DOWNTOWN GLENDALE Dear Mr Mohill, Well, not for OUR council last night. In yet another shameful stall tactic, they pretended that they couldn't vote "yes" without Elen (Untrue), who left sick, councilmember Dan Brotman voted "no" because he wanted more studies (He doesn't), Ardy said he voted "no" because Mr Gharpetian voted "yes" (Is he a kindergartener?), Mr Najarian voted a grudging "yes" after checking with the City Attorney that a split vote would push the item to next week (Slick move), and Mr Gharpetian did the right thing, as usual. Someone needs to buy these people a dictionary so they can look up the term "PUBLIC SERVANT." THANK YOU FOR WRITING: Beth Brooks is a candidate for the Glendale City Council. |
J0HN SAMUEL, CHEVYCASE CANYON, GLENDALE, RE: Glendale Residents Confront City Hall Over Surplus Land Grab Mike......... THANK YOU FOR WRITING: We always enjoy compliments. Our reward is when our subscribers ask others to subscribe to our complimentary newsletter. As you know, we have no paid advertisers influencing our writing. Mike......... A few days ago, I had an opportunity to talk with a SoCal Gas Company supervisor overseeing the work. I noted to him that the City is getting away from gas and questioned why spend all the money to replace the line? I also commented that natural gas seems to be being phased out, and it has no future. He replied with a question: "Do you know who the biggest customer of the Gas Company is?" I said, "No, who is it?" Sometimes I look around and wonder if I'm living in a mental institution and the patients have taken over. |
DIEN LUC, GLENDALE, RE: **Glendale Residents Confront City Hall Over Surplus Land Grab Hi Mike THANK YOU FOR WRITING: Should I run for council again, the wife promises to shoot me! |
VINLOY, GLENDALE, Re: Glendale Residents Confront City Hall Over Surplus Land Grab. Mr. Mohill THANK YOU FOR WRITING: Voter apathy is always an issue, but I am not here to preach, for I was also once, in the past, guilty of voter apathy. The Indigenous Tree Ordinance is what got me down to City Hall years ago to protest the city telling me how I should manage my oak and sycamore trees. |
THE VOLUNTEERS UPRISE, BURBANK, Re: Glendale Residents Confront City Hall Over Surplus Land Grab See: Transparent California.. salaries & pensions of government employees It seems obvious that the electricians got the fix in on the gig. They are milking OT, and nobody can stop them. That's the real reason rates are skyhigh. Burbank has this problem, too. Sincerely, |
ANONYMOUS, Re: Glendale Residents Confront City Hall Over Surplus Land Grab. Hi Mike, THANK YOU FOR WRITING: I guess everyone has a different experience riding and taking buses. As reported in Glendale Residents Confront City Hall Over Surplus Land Grab Mike Gomez from Glendale, "without a doubt, public transportation is a waste of taxpayers' money! So much crime it's dangerous. The homeless would actually urinate and defecate in the trains! It was one hell of a mess. I actually got tired and went back to using my auto."
